2.5. Adobe PDF - Printing on 64 bit operating systems does not pop Worldox

Symptoms

User prints to the Adobe PDF print driver

The print driver presents a regular Windows Save As dialog

Worldox does not 'hook' the Save As dialog

Background

When installed on 64 bit operating systems, the Adobe PDF printer is a 64 bit device driver.  This means that the normal Save As dialog presented by the print driver is running in 64 bit address space.  At this time, Worldox's hooking technology only works with 32 bit applications, so standard hooks will not work

Resolution

There are several strategies available to you:

  • Print to a print driver that displays it's Save As dialog in 32 bit address space (the Attach Plus Save and Send PDF printer does this, and Worldox will hook the Attach Plus Save As dialog)
  • Use the built in menu commands in Word, Excel and Powerpoint to create the PDF (this works well for most tasks.  However, it does not allow you to convert the current Excel selection):
  • Use the Acrobat plugins for Word and Excel to generate the PDF:
