8.7. Outlook - Attach File Hook Opening Address List Instead of Attaching File

Background

When attempting to attach a file or link from Worldox into your email the Address list window is appears rather than the attachment actually being attached.

This began to occur after a recent update to Outlook that included a new feature called "Coming Soon". You'll see this feature with an On/Off switch in the top right corner of your main Outlook window. Per Outlook's feature description, having this enabled means that you may be using new 'beta' features that can adjust the look and functionality of Outlook.

Resolution

At this time, the only way to get Worldox's hook to work again is to turn that feature OFF:

  • Open Outlook and find the "Coming Soon" button in the top right hand corner.
  • Toggle the setting from "On" to "Off"

  • Close and relaunch Outlook.
  • Test your Attach File hook again to confirm your file/wdl attaches as expected.

For anyone looking for a more thorough resolution, you can disable this feature entirely by implementing a new registry key (note that tampering with your Windows registry:

  • Close Outlook
  • Open Windows Registry Editor
  • Go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options
  • Right click on the Options folder and select New>Key (to create a new folder).
  • Name it "General" (no quotes).
  • Right click on the new General folder and select New>DWORD (32-bit) Value
  • Name that "DisablePreviewPlace" (no quotes) and set the value to 1.
  • Relaunch Outlook, open a new email and test the Attach File to confirm that Worldox can attach a file as expected.
