40.2. Minimum system requirements - Worldox Professional

  • File Server   stores the document repository (also called the "DocVault") and the Worldox index files.  Typically, the file server uses the same hardware as the application server, but the two can be on different hardware.
    • no real hardware requirement
    • must have large available disk capacity (> 15 GB)
    • operating system should be a Windows Server operating system (2008 or above)
    • must be backed up

Note: For small sites, a workstation OS can be used, but is not recommended - please see this article if you are considering a workstation OS for the file server.
Note: Nothing actually runs on this server, so a fully Windows compliance NAS device is acceptable.
Note: If your site uses High Availability Cluster locking, please consult with Trumpet support (support@trumpetinc.com)

  • Application Server  stores a master copy of the Worldox application and global configuration files, a master copy of the Virtuoso application, and a master copy of the Symphony Profiler application.    Executables are never launched on or registered on the application server itself – it is just used for storage of the application and configuration files.   All installation is performed via a network share from the Indexer PC.  Typically the application server uses the same hardware as the file server, but the two can be on different hardware.

    • same requirements as File Server (and is frequently the exact same computer as the File Server)

    • must be backed up

    • Note: Nothing actually runs on this server, so a fully Windows compliance NAS device is acceptable.
  • Indexer PC  runs the WDIndex application (or the "Indexer software"), which performs background processing to ensure that the index files are kept up-to-date.  WDIndex also runs nightly background maintenance.  In addition, the Symphony OCR and Symphony Profiler Processor software are installed on and run from the Indexer PC.  This workstation needs to remain logged on 24/7.  For this reason, users may not use the Indexer PC for day-to-day operations.  WDIndex does not run as a service.  Trumpet performs most configuration work from the Indexer PC.

    • Processor: Core 2 Duo (or higher). A Faster processors as well as Dual-Core Processor will provide max performance.

    • Operating System*: Microsoft Windows 7, 8 or 10 (Home version O/S's not supported).  If running on a Server O/S, must be Windows Server 2008 or newer.

    • Memory: 2GB of RAM minimum (4GB recommended)

    • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7, 8,10 (XP is not supported)

    • Network connection: 100 Mbps connected directly to your network backbone. (1 Gbps recommended.)

    • Free Local Disk Space: At least 50% of the disk size of the documents being indexed.

    • Software:  Microsoft Outlook Mail client to allow for email indexing (same version as in production)

    • The Indexer PC does *not* need to be backed up - starting the indexer on a new PC is a very quick process (see the 'Configuring a Temporary Indexer' section of the Worldox and Disaster Recovery article)
      Note:
A server operating system can be used for the Indexer.  However, if you need to run the Indexer on your application or file server, please contact Trumpet at support@trumpetinc.com to discuss.

Note:  The indexer workstation can be a Virtual Machine, and this may be a nice option for your firm.  If you do choose to use a VM as your Indexer, be sure to verify that the VMWARE Disk drive Removal policy is set to "Quick removal" Failure to do so can result in a failed rebuild.

  • Professional User Workstations   the Worldox, Virtuoso and Symphony Profiler Workstation executables are mirrored from the application server to the workstations' local disks and then launched from the local disk.

    • Processor: Core 2 Duo (or higher)

    • Operating System: Windows 7, 8 or 10 (Home version O/S's not supported)

    • Memory:  Min 2 Gig of RAM or higher. 4 Gig recommended for Win 7 and 8

    • Office and Adobe Compatibility:

      • MS Office 2007 through 2019 - 32-bit versions of full installs (Click-To-Run or trusted app installs and 64-bit versions are not supported)

      • Integration with Adobe Acrobat 8.0 or higher is supported (versions 7 and below of Acrobat are not supported)

      • Integration with Adobe Reader 9.0 or higher is supported (versions 8 and below of Reader are not supported)

      • Acrobat DC Full and Reader

  • Network Infrastructure

    • 100 Mbps, low latency connection between all systems

    • Please note that WAN connectivity (via mapped drives) is not recommended (Terminal Services or remote desktop based remote connectivity is fine)

    • Networking based on domain membership is recommended (i.e. with a domain controller and workstations connected to the domain).  Peer-to-peer networking is not recommended except for very small sites (i.e. one or two computers)

    • All servers and workstations must belong to the same domain (or workgroup)

  • Hosted Exchange
    • If you are running hosted Exchange, you must run Outlook in cached mode.

IMPORTANT:  If you are planning a server migration, please be sure to coordinate with Trumpet in advance.  We do nearly 100 server migrations per year, and have a very well defined process for ensuring they go smoothly.
